Hi KD,

I'm currently doing a research paper on High Commitment HRM and High Performance HRM. Am I right to conclude that High Commitment HRM is the 'soft' hrm and High Performance HRM is the 'hard' hrm? Yet, in my readings of theories and empiral studies there is a blurry distinction between High Commitment and High Performance HRM. Many writers used the term high commitment and high performance HRM interchangeably. Are they afterall one and the same ie just another 'best practice' hrm? What is your take on this?

Hard and soft Human Resource Management:
Hard HRM like Manpower planning, Job analysis, Selection and Recruitment, Compensation and Benefits, Performance evaluations, Contract negotiations and Labor legislations are parts of hard HRM.
Soft HRM .Functions like Organizational development, conflict management, human resource education, leadership development, organizational culture, and relationship building are components of soft HRM
